Seymour leads Buffs past Tennessee Temple

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 11, 2010) --- The Milligan College Buffs avenged an early season loss and snapped a two-game losing streak as they picked up a 97-83 non-conference victory over Tennessee Temple on Monday night.

The first half looked like the Buffs were going to run away with the contest as they found a shooting groove. In the first 10 minutes of the contest, Milligan built a 27-12 lead, and lead 51-28 at the half. Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) recorded a double-double in the first half alone as he scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds, while the Buffs shot 50 percent (19-of-38) from the field in the opener.

In the second half, Milligan continued to dominate the contest as they lengthened their lead by 29 points in the first five minutes. The Crusaders, however, put together a run over the next 10 minutes that saw them close the score 80-70 with six minutes remaining. The Buffs wouldn't be denied as that was as close as the Crusaders would get. Milligan shot 67 percent (16-of-24) in the second half, while they were 57 percent (35-of-62) for the game.

Seymour led way for Milligan has he finished the night with 33 points and 14 rebounds. Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 20 points along with eight assists, while Kyle Donahue (Greeneville, Tenn.) added 12 points and four assists. As a team, the Buffs recorded 21 total assists.

“Our problem hasn't been our defense, it has been our scoring,” Buff Head Coach Bill Robinson said. “It is hard to come in here after seeing 97 points tonight and say we have been struggling offensively. The defense has been pretty good since we got back from break so I have been pleased with that. We made a couple of runs and our defense led to that. We got some easy buckets in transition and just of course getting the ball to Cordero Seymour in the post was huge. He was a man tonight. He just played great.”

The victory improved the Buffs to 5-9 overall, and 4-1 in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on the season.

“I think part of that is being at home,” Robinson said. We have played so many road games and it is just nice to get back in our own building. The guys feel more comfortable here and they shoot the ball better here. Obviously, we like a little fan support too.”

The Buffs travel to AAC newcomer Reinhardt College on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
