Bristol, VA. (Jan. 16, 2010) --- The Milligan College women's basketball picked up their second straight road win by beating the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont 77-50.
After five lead changes, Milligan was only up at the half by the score of 38-25. The Lady Buffs shot 5-of-11(45%) from the 3-point line in the first half and shot 10-of-20 (50%) for the game. Milligan held Virginia Intermont to 38% shooting, while shooting 48% themselves.
Leading the way offensively for the Lady Buffs was
Heather Mandela (Fairfax, VA) with 15 points and 11 rebounds, 9 defensively. This was Mandela's 10th double-double of the season. Also helping out was
Samantha Blevins (Spruce Pine, N.C.) with 13 points, Jamiee Hill
(Johnson City, Tenn.) with 12 points and
Megan Casteel (Greeneville, Tenn.) added 9 points by shooting 3-of-4 (75%) from the 3-point line.
“It was a good, solid, overall effort by everyone tonight,” said Head Coach
Rich Aubrey. “We were really rebounding the ball well, both offensively and defensively tonight, which we emphasized in practice. It was nice to pull away in the second half.”
Virginia Intermont was led by
Priscilla Moseh and
Morghan Arnold, with 10 points, respectively.
The Lady Buffs improve to 12-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference. The next game for Milligan will be on Monday January 18, when they take on a former AAC conference foe King College, in Bristol, Tenn. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
