Athens, Tenn. (Oct. 30, 2010) --- The Milligan College Lady Buffs soccer team came up short in their bid to capture the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season crown outright as they fell 2-1 to Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday in Athens, Tenn. The Lady Buffs had previously clinched a share of the AAC crown as the conference race ended in a three-way tie.
The Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Marissa Traer scored in the 20th minute. TWC added another goal from Kelly Crew in the 56th minute. The Lady Buffs kept fighting as they scored in the 87th minute when
Jacklyn Orange (Bagdad, KY) found the net off of the assist from
Bettina Chirca (Jonesborough, TN). However, Milligan was unable to add another goal in the closing minutes.
Defensively,
Heather Crumplen (Courtice, Ontario) recorded six saves for the Lady Buffs.
With the loss, the Lady Buffs end the regular season 8-7-2 overall and 5-1 in conference action.
“It is certainly bittersweet,” Head Coach
Lisa Buckley said. “We are happy to be co-champions, but it would have been nice to win and host the tournament. However, the post season is a new season, and I think we have as good of a chance as anyone to come out on top.”
The Lady Buffs will open the AAC tournament at Anglin Field on Saturday, Nov. 6. The game time and opponent have yet to be announced.
