Milligan tames Lady Bobcats

Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 11, 2010) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team used a late run to defeat NCAA Division II Lees-McRae College 73-59 on Thursday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, and helped the Lady Buffs start the game with an 8-2 run in the first three minutes. Milligan continued to work on adding to their lead as they led 17-6 at the midway point in the half. The Lady Buffs maintained their advantage through the latter part of the half as they led 38-26 at halftime.

The opening part of the second half saw both teams trade shots as Milligan maintained a 47-34 with 13 minutes remaining in the game. However, Lees-McRae began a run that saw them pull within two points at the 10 minute mark. The Lady Buffs pulled the advantage back out to eight, but the Lady Bobcats made another run to close the gap to three points. The Lady Buffs, however, would not be denied as Good and Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) helped secure the victory.

Good led the Lady Buffs with 17 points, while Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) added 15 points. Mandela had her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and also recorded three blocks and two steals. Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) added 10 rebounds and seven points.

“It is really good to pull out the win,” Head Coach Rich Aubrey said. “They are a really good team, and they are much improved from last year. Obviously, we are still playing like it is November, but we still did some good things tonight.”

With the win, Milligan moves to 3-2 on the season.

The Lady Buffs return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they travel to Henderson, Tenn., to take on Freed-Hardeman University. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
