Athens, Tenn. (Nov. 12, 2010) --- The no. 3 seeded Milligan College Lady Buffs soccer team downed No. 2 Union College in overtime penalty kicks on Friday afternoon to claim a spot in the AAC Championship game. The Lady Buffs will face top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan in the final game on Saturday afternoon.
Neither team was able to break onto the scoreboard in regulation or in overtime as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
Kara Zutt (Louisville, Ky.),
Bettina Chirca (Jonesborough, Tenn.) and
Samantha Barton (Marietta, Ga.) all found the net on their penalty kicks, while
Heather Crumplen (Courtice, Ontario) saved two Lady Bulldog kicks to send Milligan to the final game.ÂÂ
Overall, Crumplen recorded nine saves, five of which were in the overtime periods.
Although the Lady Buffs were unable to score a goal against the Lady Bulldogs, they put up 11 shots in the contest, five of which being on goal. Leading Milligan's attack was sophomore forward
Jacklyn Orange (Bagdad, Ky.), who recorded four shots on goal.
“It is nice to be in the final game,” Head Coach
Lisa Buckley said. “I think we definitely deserve to be there, and we are excited for the chance to redeem our loss in the regular season to Tennessee Wesleyan.”
The Lady Buffs will take on Tennessee Wesleyan in the AAC finals on Saturday, Nov. 13, in Athens with game time set for 1 p.m.
