Buffs lose hard fought battle

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 11, 2010) --- The Milligan College Buffs dropped a hard fought game against the Bluefield College Rams on Thursday evening inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, 73-63.

In the first two minutes of the game, the Buffs fell behind 9-2. With six minutes left in the first half with the score at 28-27 in favor of the Rams, Bluefield went on a 7-0 run to increase their lead 35-27. Milligan fought back by the end of the half, and with a basket by Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) at the buzzer the Buffs cut the lead back down to three points.

At the 15-minute mark of the second half, the Buffs had a 9-0 run of their own to tie the game up at 46 apiece. Milligan took their first lead of the second half with 7:30 left at 56-55 with a field goal by Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.). Bluefield battled back once again and the game was all tied at 61 with three minutes left. The Rams Ted O' boute made a basket and then was fouled by Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) with 2:30 left. O' boute missed the free throw, but the lead was extended to 65-61. The Rams never looked back as they eventually won the game by 10 points by hitting their free throws down the stretch.

Leading the way for the Buffaloes on the offensive end was the former Dobyns-Bennett star Hardy with 13 points and three rebounds. Bryant Edwards (Tabor City, N.C.), Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.), Tyler DeVaut (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Kyle Donahue (Greeneville, Tenn.) all chipped in with 8 points apiece. Seymour ended the night with seven points and eight rebounds.

With the loss, the Buffs drop to 9-17 overall and 4-9 in the AAC, while Bluefield improves to 13-12 overall and 9-5 in conference action.

The Buffs return to action on Saturday evening when they host AAC newcomer Reinhardt College on Saturday night. Milligan looks to get revenge for a 78-74 loss earlier in the season to the Eagles. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
