Lady Buffs receive AAC honors

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2010) --- Several Lady Buffs were honored by the Appalachian Athletic Conference on Thursday afternoon as the accolades from the regular season was announced by the league office.

Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) was named to the AAC All-Conference first team. The junior was also named to the All-Defensive squad, and was honored for her academic achievement as a selection of the AAC All-Academic team. Mandela is averaging 16.80 points per game and 10.57 rebounds per game. Mandela has had 18 double-doubles this season.

Senior Brit White (Chuckey, Tenn.) was named the AAC All-Conference second team, and was also named to the AAC All-Defensive team. White was a force as the starting point guard for Milligan, and contributed 5.10 points per game, and led the team with 67 assists. 

Former Unicoi County star Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) was named as a member of the AAC All-Conference third team. The sophomore was the second leading scoring on the Lady Buffs as she averaged 9.87 points per game. Mainer also had 6.63 rebounds per game and six double-doubles on the season.

Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Megan Casteel (Greeneville, Tenn.) were named to the AAC All-Freshman season in their first season wearing the orange and black. Hill averaged 8.67 points per game and 1.23 steals per game, while Castell contributed 5.03 points per game.

Head Coach Rich Aubrey was named AAC Co-Coach of the year along with former Elizabethton High School assistant and current Bluefield College coach Steve Hardin. Aubrey had earned the honor five previous times with the most recent coming last season.

The top seeded Lady Buffs start the AAC tournament on Thursday night as they host a quarterfinal matchup with Reinhardt College inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
