Buffs finish strong to knock off bears

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 27, 2010) --- Despite the near freezing temperatures at Anglin Field Saturday afternoon, the Milligan College baseball team knocked off the Bears of Shawnee State (Ohio) University by the final of 8-5.  

Milligan trailed Shawnee State early, as the Bears led it 3-1 after the first four innings of play. The Buffs closed the gap in the bottom of the fifth as Randy Rabon (York, S.C.) scored on a sacrifice fly from Dallas Crouch (Jefferson City, Tenn.), making it 3-2.  

The Buffs tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh as they went ahead 4-3 over the visitors, but the Bears would knot the game back at four runs apiece in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, Milligan added four runs breaking the stalemate. Shawnee State tried to muster a comeback in the top of the ninth, but were unsuccessful.

Aaron Dorriety (Pickens, S.C.) got the start for the Buffs today on the hill, throwing five complete innings. Dorriety scattered eight hits and gave up just one earned run. However, L.A. Owens (Dillon, S.C.) was the pitcher of record for Milligan earning the win in two full innings of work. Owens gave up two hits, no earned runs and struck out a batter in the appearance. For the season, Owens if 1-0.  

Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) led the Buffs at the plate in the afternoon contest going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Crouch was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.  

With the win, the Buffs improve to 4-3 on the year.  

Milligan completes the series with the Bears tomorrow afternoon on Anglin Field as the doubleheader is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
