Milligan takes series over 11th ranked Bulldogs

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 15, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team took the deciding game of the AAC series against No. 11 Tennessee Wesleyan Monday afternoon on Anglin Field by the final of 4-3.

The Bulldogs struck first driving in a run in the top of the first, but the Buffs answered bringing across two runners in the bottom of the inning to stand atop of the visitors 2-1.

After four and a half scoreless innings, Milligan tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth as Matt Lyle (Hendersonville, Tenn.) hit a single to right to bring home Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.), giving the Buffs a 3-1 lead. The Milligan lead was short lived as Wesleyan responded in the top of the seventh knotting the game at three runs apiece.

Milligan shortstop Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) represented the winning run as he scored in the bottom of the seventh to break the stalemate and give the Buffs the series.

Milligan right hander Aaron Dorriety (Pickens, S.C.) earned the win on the mound in seven innings of work for the Buffs. Dorriety scattered seven hits and yielded three earned runs in the outing, while striking out three batters. Mike Gallo (Peabody, Mass.) and Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) both pitched a flawless inning of relief for Milligan, with Trivett picking up the save.

Offensively, Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) led the way for the home team going 3-for-4 on the day. Morgan was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Lyle was also 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Milligan travels to take on NCAA Division II Brevard College Tuesday, March 16, for a single 9-inning non-conference matchup. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
