Milligan College, Tenn. (March 7, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team used a 10-run seventh inning to take the series over the Cavaliers of Montreat (N.C.) College Sunday afternoon on Anglin Field. The Buffs prevailed in the contest, 10-5. ÂÂ
Milligan started out slow in the finale of the series against Montreat, allowing the Cavs to post five runs on the board through the first seven innings. A few well positioned Montreat hits and a few Milligan errors gave the Cavs a comfortable 5-0 lead with two innings remaining. ÂÂ
In the bottom of the seventh, senior
Todd Caldwell (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a leadoff double to start the Buffs exciting comeback. Senior slugger
Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) followed suit with the bases loaded and just one away. A wild pitch would bring
Randy Rabon (York, S.C.) safely across the plate just before Morgan hit a double to score both runners and close the gap. Before the dust settled, Milligan doubled Montreat's score on just five hits to safely secure the victory.   ÂÂ
Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.), Milligan's favored closer, earned the win in the outing Sunday in three innings of work. Trivett struck out two and only gave up a hit in the appearance. For the year, Trivett is 1-0. ÂÂ
Offensively, Rabon led the charge going 1-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and a RBI. A day after driving in all of Milligan's runs, Morgan pitched in two RBIs and a run to help the Buffs pick up the win.
For the season, Milligan improves to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the league. ÂÂ
The Buffs travel to Toccoa Falls, Ga., for a makeup date with the Eagles Monday, March 8. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
