Dayton, Tenn. (April 10, 2010) --- The 20th ranked Milligan College Buff baseball team split an AAC doubleheader with the Bryan Lions on Saturday afternoon at Senter Field in Dayton, Tenn. The Buffs came out on top in the first contest 3-2, but came up short 2-1 in the second game.
In the first game, Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) recorded the win after one and a third innings of work. Colin Duffie (Calhoun, Ga.) got the start and had a no decision after five and two-thirds innings on the mound. In that time, Duffie gave up two unearned runs and struck out six Lion batters.
Offensively for the Buffs, Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Brett Maddox (Lake Butler, Fla.) was 1-for-3 with a solo homerun in the contest.
In the second game, Shawn Ray (York, S.C.) was handed the loss with five innings of work. Ray allowed five hits and two runs, and record three strikeouts.
Todd Caldwell (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the way offensively for the Buffs with two hits. Andrew Sims (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Dallas Crouch (Jefferson City, Tenn.) had one hit apiece.
“These are two tough losses this weekend,” Head Coach Nathan Meade said. “We weren't ready to play, and didn't put three phases of the game together. We came out flat and didn't hit. Our pitchers gave us a chance to win, and that is all you can ask for. We just weren't ready to play, and that is my responsibility.”
With the split, the Buffs move to 13-5 in AAC play and 24-12 overall, while Bryan moves to 9-9 in conference play and 18-24 overall.
Milligan returns to action on Wednesday, April 14th when they travel to Central, S.C. for a nonconference game with Southern Wesleyan University. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
