Greeneville, Tenn. (April 14, 2010) --- The Milligan College softball team edged NCAA Division II Tusculum College in the opener of two contests 6-5, and blanked the Lady Pioneers in the nightcap 3-0 Wednesday afternoon on J.C. Edmonds Field.
Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) gave up three runs on five hits, one of which were earned en route to the win. Musick also struck out five in the outing and improves to 10-4 on the season.
Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) led the way offensively in the opener going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) also followed suit going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Earning the win inside the pitcher's circle in the night cap was Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) in seven complete innings of work. Burns scattered four hits in the shutout and struck out six. For the year, Burns improves to 13-6.
Offensively, Olvey and Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) recorded the only two Lady Buffs hits in the closer, as they both were 1-for-3.
For the year, Milligan improves to 24-11 overall and remains at 10-6 in the league.
The Lady Buffs travel to King College Tuesday, April 20, for their next contest. Action for the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
