Bristol, Va. (April 20, 2010) --- The Milligan College softball team traveled to King College to play the Lady Tornado in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon and won the first game 4-2 in extra innings and lost the second game 10-2 in a run-ruled shortened 5-inning game.
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) got the starting nod inside the pitchers circle pitching seven innings, allowing eight hits, two runs, and three strikeouts on her way to earning the victory. Burns now stands 14-6 on the season.
Rachel Ingelby (Knoxville, Tenn.) also threw a scoreless sixth inning.
At the plate the Lady Buffs were led by
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Megan Heaton (Elizabethton, Tenn.),
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.), and
Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) all chimed in going 2-for-4 a piece, with Heaton driving in the game winning run in the top of the eighth.
The starting pitcher for the Lady Buffs in the second game was
Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) who threw all five innings, giving up ten hits, ten runs (nine earned), and fanning seven batters on her way to the loss. Musick drops to 10-5 on the season.
Offensively for the Lady Buffs,
Alicia Engle (Erwin, Tenn.) led the way going 1-for-1 with an RBI, while Biggs went 1-for-3 and Heaton went 1-for-2.
With the split, the Lady Buffs move to 25-12 on the season. They will hit the field next on Saturday, April 24, as they travel to Morristown, Tenn. to take on Walters State Community College in a scrimmage. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
