Milligan College, Tenn. (Aug. 28, 2010) --- The Milligan  College volleyball team was perfect on day two of the Milligan Mountain Madness  tournament as they defeated Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville,  Tenn.) 3-2 and Southern Virginia University (Buena Vista, Va.)  3-0.
In the first game against Trevecca Nazarene, the Lady Buffs were  forced to rally after losing the first set 25-21. Milligan came back and took  the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-16. After the Lady Trojans captured  the fourth set 28-26, the Lady Buffs jumped out early and took the fifth and  final set by a score of 15-10.
Milligan was led by Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) who had a team high 28 digs and eight  kills. Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 48 assists. Senior  Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) led Milligan in kills with  17, while Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) and Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 11 kills apiece. Senior duo  Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) and Ashley Agin (Atlanta,  Ga.) had 22 and 20 digs, respectively.
In the final game of the  tournament, the Lady Buffs knocked off the Lady Knights in three sets. The match  saw Milligan come out firing as they captured the first set 25-18 and the final  two sets by a score of 25-14.
Spivey recorded 26 assists, 14 digs and  three spikes in the match. Rutledge led the team in digs with 14 while Burnett  had seven kills. Fiddler and Hale added six kills and three spikes apiece.  Rutledge and Fiddler were named to the 2010 Milligan Mountain Madness  All-Tournament team. 
With the pair of victories on Saturday, the Lady  Buffs move to 3-1 overall.
“Overall, I think we had a great tournament,”  Head Coach Doneva Bays said. “I am very pleased coming out with  a 3-1 record. Our middle really stepped up which is going to be a huge key for  our success this season. I'm excited about how good we could  become.”
Milligan returns to action on Sept. 3 and 4, when they travel to  Nashville, Tenn., for the Scott Jones Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene  University. The Lady Buffs open the tournament with a contest against Cumberland  University at 11 a.m. on Friday.
