Milligan College, Tenn. (August 30, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's soccer team came up short in their season opener as they fell 3-1 to Savannah College of Art and Design on Monday afternoon at Anglin Field.
Rusty Baxter (Knoxville, Tenn.) had the lone goal for the Buffs as his kick in the 37th minute tied the contest at 1-1. Despite several good looks at the goal, Milligan was unable to answer a pair of SCAD goals in the second half.
Alexander Haun (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the nod at the goalie position and recorded two saves in the contest. In the game, Milligan outshot the Bees 18-10 and had six shots on goal.
“I am not disappointed in the way we played,” Head Coach Adam Laney said. “We outshot them and beat them in every category statistically, but we just couldn't score. The only area I am a little bit disappointed in is a little bit of discipline. Overall, I thought we showed fairly well.”
The win drops Milligan to 0-1 overall to start the season, and moves the Bees to 3-0 on the year.
The Buffs return to action on Sept. 3 and Sept. 4, when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take part in the AUM Capital City Classic hosted by Auburn University at Montgomery. Milligan opens play at 4 p.m. on Friday when they square off against the host Senators.
