Buffs basketball dismisses Eagles

Waleska, Ga. (Jan. 26, 2011) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team picked up an 82-72 AAC victory over the Reinhardt Eagles on Wednesday night in Waleska, Ga.

The Buffs opened the game on a roll as they jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the game's first four minutes. Reinhardt, however, responded as they tied the game at 17 before taking their first lead of the night. Milligan kept in touch with the Eagles, but could not get back in front in the first half as they trailed 39-36 at halftime.

The second half saw the teams stay within a possession of each other before Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) scored four straight points to propel the Buffs to a 51-43 lead with 15:13 remaining in the game. Milligan maintained the advantage until Bryant Edwards (Tabor City, N.C.) returned the lead back to double digits midway through the half.

The Buffs kept a double digit lead until Reinhardt used a 6-2 run to pull back within striking distance with three minutes remaining. However, freshman Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) scored nine points down the stretch to secure the win for Milligan.

Grisby led the Buffs with 20 points and five assists. Former Dobyns-Bennett standout Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) added 16 points, while Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C.) scored 14 points. Seymour ended the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

As a team, the Buffs were 26-of-48 (54%) from the field and 2-of-10 (20%) from behind the arc. The Eagles were 25-of-57 (43%) from the floor and 5-of-14 (35%) from the 3-point line.

With the win, Milligan improves to 10-10 overall and a league best 6-1 in AAC action.

The Buffs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan for an AAC showdown. Tipoff in Athens, Tenn., is slated for 4 p.m.
