Buffaloes volleyball sees season end in AAC tournament

Kingsport, Tenn. (Nov. 9, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team saw their season come to a close as they fell 3-0 to Columbia College on the opening day of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament inside MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
 
   Milligan fell behind early in the first set, and saw a late rally fall short as they dropped the set 25-20. In the second set, Columbia used an early run to pulled ahead, but the Buffaloes battled back to close the gap before falling 25-22. The third set was an even game throughout. However, the Buffaloes were unable to take advantage of set point as they fell 30-28.
 
   Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 39 assists, while Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 15 kills. Milligan's lone senior Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 19 digs in her final career game as a Buffalo. Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) had 10 and nine kills, respectively, while Kaitlyn Qualls (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 10 digs.
 
   “I am proud of how we fought back after getting down early,” Head Coach Doneva Bays said.”Getting down early has been our struggle all season, and against good teams that really hurts you. We kept fighting today, but was just unable to finish it off.”
 
   Milligan ends their season with a 9-7 conference record and finished the year 11-19 overall.
