Milligan men's basketball captures AAC title

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2011) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team clinched the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season title on senior night with a 101-86 victory over Reinhardt University on Saturday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

The Buffaloes opened the game on a roll as they quickly ran out to a 7-0 lead. Milligan continued to add to their lead as a Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) basket gave them a 29-11 lead at the midpoint of the first half. The Buffaloes extended their advantage to as many as 21 points before a late Reinhardt run cut the Milligan lead to 51-43 at halftime.

Milligan opened the second half like they did the first as they went on a 10-2 run capped by a Hudson Fricke (Greeneville, S.C.) 3-pointer to pull out to a 61-45 advantage. The Buffaloes slowly added to their lead as Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C.) drained a jumpshot to give Milligan an 84-64 lead with six minutes remaining. Milligan kept the Eagles at bay in the closing minutes to secure the victory.

Fricke led the Buffaloes with 28 points, while Seymour added 23 points. Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) added 10 points apiece. The lone senior on the Milligan roster Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C.) had seven points in his last regular season game inside Stave Lacy Fieldhouse.

As a team, Milligan was 35-of-60 (58%) from the field and 8-of-21 (38%) from behind the arc. Reinhardt was 30-of-76 (39%) from the floor and 6-of-21 (29%) from behind the arc.

With the win, Milligan ends the regular season at 16-11 overall and 12-2 in the AAC.

The top-seeded Buffaloes open the AAC tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 23, inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
