Milligan women's basketball wins on senior night

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2011) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team celebrated senior night with a 65-59 victory over Reinhardt University on Saturday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The victory also wrapped up the two-seed in the AAC tournament for the Buffaloes.

Senior Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) scored the first five points of the game for Milligan to give the Buffaloes a 5-2 lead in the game's opening minutes. Milligan widened their lead to nine minutes with seven minutes left, but Reinhardt slowly cut the gap to tie the game at 30 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles quickly took the lead to start the second half, before Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) and Mandela scored to take the lead back for Milligan. The Buffaloes continued to add to their advantage as a Mandela basket gave Milligan a 54-34 lead with six minutes remaining. From that point, the Buffaloes maintained the advantage to take the victory.

Mandela had 24 points and seven rebounds in her last regular season game inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) each had eight points in the game.

As a team, the Buffaloes were 21-of-50 (42%) from the field and 2-of-10 (20%) from behind the 3-point line. Reinhardt was 25-of-60 (42%) from the floor and 3-of-13 (23%) from behind the arc. The Buffaloes were 21-of-30 (70%) at the free throw line.

With the win, Milligan ends the regular season with a 22-8 overall and 10-4 in the AAC.

The Buffaloes will open the AAC tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 22, inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
