Wise, Va. (Feb. 23, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team split a pair of games on Wednesday afternoon with former AAC foe UVA-Wise in Wise, Va. The Buffaloes fell 2-0 in the first game, but bounced back to take a 5-4 win in the day's second game.
In the first game, the game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when UVA-Wise scored the game's first run. The Buffaloes were unable to respond as the Lady Cavs added another run in the sixth to take the victory.
Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) and
Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 1-for-2 at the plate, while freshman
Maleah Wolfenbarger (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 1-for-3.
In the pitcher's circle,
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) was handed the loss. In six innings of work, Burns gave up four hits and two runs, and she recorded seven strikeouts.
In the second game, Milligan opened the scoring with a run in the third, and then added two runs in the fifth and sixth to take the win.
Brittany DiRobbio (Oviedo, Fla.) was 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI, while
Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) was 1-for-3.
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) and
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) each had an RBI in the game.
Chancli Connaster (Maryville, Tenn.) got the nod for Milligan in the pitching circle, and got the win in six innings of work. She allowed seven hits and four runs, while she recorded five strikeouts. Burns was credited with the save.
Milligan improves to 5-5 on the season.
The Buffaloes return to action on Friday, Feb. 25, when they participate in the Shorter Invitational in Rome, Ga. Milligan's first game in the event is at 2 p.m., against Lindsey Wilson.
