Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team made a late rally, but was unable to capitalize as they fell 74-71 to Union College in the AAC Semifinal round on Saturday afternoon inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The start of the game saw neither team able to pull out to a large advantage as the Buffaloes trailed 7-4 five minutes into the game.
Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) took advantage of a layup and a plus one to pull Milligan back within two at the midpoint of the half. However, Union ran back to an eight point lead. The remainder of the half saw Milligan cut the lead to two points twice, but a late Bulldog run gave Union a 42-31 lead at halftime.
Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) started the half with back to back baskets to cut the Milligan deficit to eight points. Another Hardy basket at the 13:17 mark put the Buffaloes within five points, but Union responded with two separate runs to pull out to a 13 point lead with 4:01 left.
The Buffaloes responded with a run of their own as
Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) hit a runner and
Hudson Fricke (Charlotte, N.C.) drained a 3-pointer off of a
Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) steal. Milligan pulled within a point off of a Sylvester field goal with 1:42 remaining, but was unable to get in front of the Bulldogs before the horn sounded.
Sylvester led the Buffaloes with 20 points, while Seymour and Fricke had 11 points apiece. Grisby ended the game with 10 points.
Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C.) had seven points in his final game in a Milligan uniform.
As a team, Milligan was 22-of-57 (39%) from the floor and 1-of-10 (10%) from behind the 3-point line. Union was 26-of-53 (49%) from the field and 5-of-14 (36%) from behind the arc.
With the loss, Milligan ends the season 17-12 and recorded a 12-2 record in AAC play. The Buffaloes claimed the AAC regular season title.
