Athens, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2011) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team fell short in their quest for an Appalachian Athletic Conference title on Saturday night as they fell 68-64 to Tennessee Wesleyan in the AAC Championship game in Athens, Tenn.
The Lady Bulldogs took a 30-21 lead into halftime. However, the Buffaloes kept fighting as they outscored TWC 43-38 in the second half, but was unable to take the lead in the closing minutes.
Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.), who was named the AAC Player of the year, led Milligan with 23 points and seven rebounds in the last game of her storied career at Milligan.
Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) had 11 points, while
Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) scored nine points in the game.
As a team, Milligan was 25-of-58 (43%) from the floor and 8-of-17 (47%) from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Bulldogs were 24-of-60 (40%) from the field and 9-of-23 (39%) from behind the arc.
Milligan ends the season with a 24-9 overall record. The Buffaloes finished second in the AAC during the regular season with a 10-4 mark. In addition to Mandela, Milligan will graduate Brittany Wooley (Bartlett, Tenn.) and
Sarah Muniz (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.).
