Milligan College, Tenn. (Mar. 21, 2011) --- The Milligan College tennis program came up short on Monday afternoon has both teams fell 7-2 to NCAA Division II Mars Hill College at Mathes Tennis Center.
The men's side saw
Johannes Jonsson (Lysekil, Sweden) and
Caleb Friddell (Ooltewah, Tenn.) claim wins in single action after both fought off match points. Jonsson defeated Gulherme Lima 6-2, 1-6, 7-6, while Friddell defeated Carlos Oyaga 2-6, 7-6, 12-10.
“It was big wins for both guys,” Head Coach
Ryan Reynolds said. “For Johannes, it was a breakout win because he has had so many close matches this year. It will give both a confidence boast and is a step in the right direction.”
The women saw the doubles team of Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Ahmee Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) pick up a 8-5 victory, while Albany Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) won her singles match 6-4, 7-5.
“We had a lot of close matches today that we didn't win,” Reynolds said. “It will help us down the road, and give us valuable experience in close matches.”
The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, March 23, as they travel to King College with action slated to begin at 2 p.m.
