Milligan tennis splits with Union

Barbourville, Ky. (Apr. 9, 2011) --- The Milligan College tennis program the women come one step closer to the AAC title as they dispatched Union College 7-2, but the men fell 9-0 to the nationally ranked Bulldogs.

The Milligan women swept the doubles matches 3-0, and never looked back as they added to their advantage early in singles action to take the victory.

“It was another great win for our women,” Head Coach Ryan Reynolds said. “We played well, and it was great to pick up the conference win.”

With the win, the Milligan women improve to 3-0 in AAC play and 9-3 overall.

The Buffaloes men saw Ricky Jones (Elizabethton, Tenn.) stay in the mix, but came up short in number one singles against Nicholas Ernst.

“Union is one of the best NAIA teams we have faced this season, and I am glad we saw the level that we need to raise our game to,” Reynolds said. “Today showed us things we can improve on to elevate our game.”

The loss dropped the Buffaloes to 1-2 in AAC action and 4-7 overall.

Both squads return to action on Sunday, April 10, when they travel to Bluefield College for the AAC finale. Action in Bluefield, Va., is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
