Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 11, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team saw
Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) score a career high 24 points as the Buffaloes took a 84-72 AAC victory over Union (Ky.) College on Wednesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

  After Union jumped out to a 5-0 run in the early going,
Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) and DeVault pulled the Buffaloes within two points, and
Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) hit a jumper with 15:28 to tie the game at eight. From there, the teams traded baskets until the 10 minute mark as Milligan held a slim 16-15 lead midway through the frame.

  The Buffaloes added to their advantage as DeVault scored off
Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) for two consecutive baskets to go up 26-22, but Union battled back tie the game at 28 just under the five minute mark.
Cory Hendren (Lexington, S.C.) drained a 3-pointer and another at the buzzer to send Milligan into the locker room at half with a 42-37 lead.

  DeVault led the way at the half with 12 points, while
Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) had six points at the break. As a team, the Buffaloes were 16-of-33 (49%) from the field and 3-of-13 (23%) from behind the arc. Union ended the half 13-of-24 (54%) from the floor and 3-of-4 (75%) from the 3-point line.

  DeVault scored back-to-back baskets for the Buffaloes to start the second half to spark a 16-5 Milligan run to start the second half to put Milligan up 58-42 with just under 15 minutes to play. Union, however, went on an 8-0 run to cut the Buffaloes lead to eight points.

  The Buffaloes saw DeVault, Sitton and Hardy score multiple points apiece to build up to 74-58 lead. The Bulldogs within nine points in the final minutes, but the Buffaloes used baskets from Hardy and Grisby to break the Bulldog run to secure the victory.

   DeVault's 24 points, which beat his previous high by seven points, led the way for the Buffaloes. Sitton tallied up 16 points in the game, while Hardy ended the game with 14 points. Grisby was the fourth Buffaloes player to score in double-digits with 12 points. Sitton recorded a team high eight rebounds.

  As a team, Milligan was 31-of-65 (48%) from the floor and 5-of-20 (25%) from behind the arc. Union ended the game 25-of-48 (52%) from the field and 6-of-13 (46%) from behind the 3-point line.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in AAC action, while Union falls to 4-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14, when they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan for a key AAC matchup. Tip off in Athens, Tenn., is slated for 4 p.m.
