Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 28, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team pulled away from AAC foe Montreat College to take a 80-70 victory inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

  The first half saw Montreat open the game on a 6-0 run, but the Buffaloes fought back with a 3-pointer from
Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) to cut the gap to 9-7 five minutes into the game.
Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) tied the game with a jumper, and the Buffaloes ran out to a 16-11 lead midway through the half.

  Milligan extended their advantage to nine points before the Cavaliers went on a run to pull within two points. The Buffaloes saw DeVault score six of the next 10 points to take a 39-29 lead at the half.

  DeVault led Milligan with 12 points in the half, while
Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Bryant Edwards (Tabor City, N.C.) had eight points apiece. As a team, Milligan was 13-of-30 (43%) from the field and 5-of-8 (66%) from behind the 3-point line. Montreat finished the half 8-of-30 (27%) from the floor and 0-of-8 from behind the arc.

  The Buffaloes quickly extended their lead at the start of the second half with buckets from
Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Hardy. After a Cavalier basket, Sitton and DeVault game the Buffaloes a 47-33 lead five minutes into the period. Montreat pulled within three points with a 12-4 run, but DeVault and a
Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) slam sparked a 10-0 Milligan run as the Buffaloes led 61-48 with just under 10 minutes to play.

  The teams traded points over the next five minutes as Milligan added their advantage to 12 points before the Cavaliers cut the gap back to single digits. DeVault and Hardy put the Milligan lead back to double-digits as Milligan led 72-60 with just under five minutes remaining. The Buffaloes kept the Cavaliers at bay to take the victory in the game's final minutes.

  Milligan was led by DeVault who recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Hardy ended the game with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Sitton had 13 points. Edwards was the fourth Buffalo in double-digits with 11 points.

  As a team, Milligan was 30-of-54 (56%) from the floor and 6-of-10 (60%) from behind the 3-point line. Montreat finished the game 24-of-64 (38%) from the field and 4-of-16 (25%) from behind the arc.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in AAC action, while Montreat falls to 4-5 in conference play and 9-11 overall.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 31, as they travel to AAC frontrunner Bluefield College. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m., in Bluefield, Va.
