Milligan falls to AAC rival Montreat

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 28, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team came up short on Saturday as they fell 81-70 to AAC foe Montreat inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
   Montreat had an early six-point run in the first 2 minutes of the game. The Buffaloes bounced back and both teams traded shots before Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) tied the game at 16 all with 13 minutes left in the half. The teams traded shots, but the Cavaliers regained the lead as they went on a 5-0 run with less than nine minutes left on the clock.
 
   Milligan's Chelsey Weddle (Hampton, Tenn.) responded with a 3-pointer to spark a five point run, and then the Buffaloes took their first lead of the game off of a Kelly 3-pointer. The teams continued to fight for the lead, but Montreat held onto a 2-point lead going into halftime as they led 41-39.
 
   As a team, the Buffaloes were 14-of-32 (44%) from the floor and 4-of-12 (33%) from behind the arc. The Cavaliers were 14-of-33 (42%) from the floor and 3-of-9 (33%) from behind the arc.
 
   In the second half, Montreat slowly added to their lead as they led 59-50 midway through the frame. After the Lady Cavaliers extended their advantage to double-digits, Kelly Hudler (Jefferson, N.C.) drained a 3-pointer, but the Buffaloes were unable to close the gap any farther despite a hard fought effort.
 
   Kelly ended the game with 12 points, while Hudler finished with 11 points. Senior Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) had 10 points and a team high six rebounds.
 
   The Buffaloes ended the game 24-of-67 (36%) from the floor and 8-of-26 (31%) from behind the arc. The Cavaliers ended the game 27-of-65 (42%) from the floor and 5-of-11 (45%) from the 3-point line.
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls 5-6 in AAC action and 13-9 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 31, when they travel to Bluefield College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m., in Bluefield, Va.
