Buffaloes women's basketball stumbles at Bluefield

Bluefield, Va. (Jan. 31, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team came up short on Tuesday night as they fell 68-58 to AAC foe Bluefield College in Bluefield, Va.
 
   After Bluefield jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, the Buffaloes fought back to tie the game at 10 with a Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) 3-pointer, and then took their first lead of the game when freshman Chelsey Weddle (Hampton, Tenn.) knocked down a trey with 12 minutes left in the first half. However, the Lady Rams closed the half on a 14-4 run to take a 31-23 lead into the half.
 
   Milligan opened the second half on a run of their own as they cut the Bluefield lead to four points with a Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) 3-pointer. The teams traded shots, and the Buffaloes tied the game with 12 minutes left off of a Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) 3-pointer. Bluefield answered the Mainer 3-pointer with a quick 9-0 run, and Milligan was unable to recover before time expired.
 
   Mainer led the way with 17 points. Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) had 12 points, while Hill and Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) had nine and eight points, respectively.
 
   As a team, Milligan was 18-of-53 (34%) from the field and 6-of-17 (35%) from the 3-point line. Bluefield was 25-of-55 (46%) from the floor and 4-of-11 (35%) from behind the arc.
 
   With the loss, Milligan drops to 5-7 in AAC action and 13-11 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Thursday, Feb. 2, when they kick off a two-game homestand against Reinhardt University. Game time against the Lady Eagles is slated for 5:30 p.m.
