Buffaloes men's basketball comes up short at Bryan

Dayton, Tenn. (Jan. 7, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Bryan in the second half as the Buffaloes fell 79-55 to the Lions on Saturday afternoon in AAC action in Dayton, Tenn.

Milligan took an early lead off of a Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) 3-pointer in the opening minutes. After the Lions battled back to take a slim lead, Grisby hit a 3-pointer off a Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) pass to take a 11-5 lead with 15:11 left in the half.

The teams traded the lead for the remainder of the half as neither team could build up a sizable advantage. After Bryan took a 33-28 lead with 2:29 left in the half, Milligan used a basketball from freshman Chris Ellis (Bristol, Tenn.) to cut the gap to 38-35 at the break.

In the second half, Bryan slowly added to their advantage as the Buffaloes were unable to keep pace with the Lions' hot shooting pace as Milligan was outscored 41-20 in the period.

Grisby led the way with 16 points for Milligan, while Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ellis ended the game with eight points.

As a team, the Buffaloes were 21-of-60 (35%) from the field and 6-of-20 (30%) from the 3-point line. Bryan ended the game 30-of-61 (49%) from the floor and 5-of-12 (42%) from behind the arc.

With the loss, Milligan drops to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in conference action, while Bryan moves to 2-2 in AAC play and 7-4 overall.

The Buffaloes return to action when they begin a two-game home stand on Monday, Jan. 9, when they host Bluefield College in a game that was originally slated for last week but was postponed due to snow. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m., inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
