Milligan women's basketball falls in season opener

Cleveland, Tenn. (Nov. 3, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team fell 88-58 to nationally ranked NAIA D-I Lee University on Saturday in Cleveland, Tenn.
 
   The game was tied at 5-5 in the opening minutes, but the Lady Flames slowly pulled away as they led 22-13 with under 10 minutes to play in the first half. Tracy Hardiman (Maryville, Tenn.) pulled Milligan with four points with five minutes left in the half with a 3-pointer. However, Lee used a 16-0 run to pull away and take a 43-29 lead at the break.
 
   Milligan opened the second half by cutting the gap to seven points. However, that was as close as they could get to Lee in the second period.
 
   Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the way with 19 points, while Hardiman had 11 points. Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) tallied up seven points and six rebounds, while freshman Allison Jones (Morristown, Tenn.) scored seven points in her collegiate debut.
 
   As a team, Milligan was 21-of-59 (36%) from the floor and 5-of-24 (21%) from behind the arc. Lee finished the game 33-of-68 (49%) from the field and 9-of-25 (36%) from behind the 3-point line.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 5, as they host NCAA D-II Lees-McRae College inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
