Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a 3-pointer as time expired to send the Milligan College women's basketball team to a 58-57 victory over Northwood University on the first day of the Step It Up Classic in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Good scored in the opening minutes for the Buffaloes, but Milligan trailed 10-5 five minutes into the game. The teams traded shots over the next five minutes as the Seahawks maintained a 16-10 lead midway through the half.

Chelsey Weddle (Hampton, Tenn.) scored off an offensive rebound to close the gap. However, Northwood went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 26-12. Kelly scored seven points in the closing minutes of the first half to cut the Milligan deficit to 28-21 at the break.

  Good sparked a 10-0 Milligan run to open the second half as the Buffaloes took their first lead of the game at 31-30 with 15:25 left in the game. After the teams swapped the lead, Northwood regained the lead until freshman
Allison Jones (Morristown, Tenn.) drained a jumper to tie the game at 40-40 midway through the half.

  The Skyhawks extended their lead to four points, but
Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) and Jones hit baskets to but Milligan up by three with just over five minutes left in the game. The Buffaloes held the advantage until Northwood took a 53-52 lead with 1:56 left on the clock, but Milligan tied it at 54-54 with 1:32 left.

  In the final minute, Freeman hit a free throw with 38 seconds left to give Milligan a one point lead. Northwood's Emily May responded on the other end with a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left to give the Seahawks the lead. The Buffaloes attacked the goal in the final seconds until
Tracy Hardiman (Maryville, Tenn.) found Good for the game winner as time expired.

  Good led the way with a game high 21 points, while Kelly finished the game with 17 points. Freeman had seven points and a team high seven rebounds. Hill finished with five points.

  As a team, Milligan finished the game 20-of-56 (36%) from the floor and 10-of-25 (40%) from the 3-point line. The Seahawks ended the game 23-of-47 (49%) from the field and 3-of-11 (27%) from behind the arc.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 9-4 overall.

  The Buffaloes will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 15, as they close out the Step It Up Classic against Florida Memorial. Game time in West Palm Beach, Fla., is slated for 12 p.m. ÂÂ
