Jefferson City, Tenn. (Dec. 15, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team fell 101-68 in nonconference action to NCAA D-II Carson-Newman College on Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Ignas Palaima (Lithuania) opened the scoring for the Buffaloes with the first six points, but the Eagles ran out to a 14-6 lead five minutes into the game. After Carson-Newman extended the margin to 12 points, Milligan pulled back within seven points with a dunk from
Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) and a 3-pointer from
Scott Blake (Greeneville, Tenn.). However, the Eagles responded with a 10-0 run and maintained the advantage as they held a 49-34 lead at the half.

Cory Hendren (Lexington, S.C.) led the way in the first half with 11 points for Milligan. As a team, the Buffaloes were 14-of-28 (50%) from the field and 5-of-12 (42%) from behind the arc. The Eagles ended the half 18-of-36 (50%) from the floor and 6-of-14 (43%) from behind the 3-point line.

  In the second half, DeVault and Palaima scored in the opening minutes for Milligan, but they were unable to cut into the Carson-Newman lead. Despite a hard fought effort, the Buffaloes were unable to close the gap any further.

  Hendren ended the game with a team high 19 points.
Kurt Brooks (Newport, Tenn.) and Palaima had 10 points apiece, and freshman
Cartree Pettis (Oviedo, Fla.) had eight points and four steals.

  As a team, Milligan was 28-of-57 (49%) from the field and 9-of-24 (38%) from behind the 3-point line. Carson-Newman finished the game 34-of-67 (51%) from the floor and 12-of-28 (42%) from behind the arc.

  With the loss, Milligan falls to 7-5 overall.

  The Buffaloes return to action as they kick off a two-game road trip through New Jersey and New York as they play Berekly College. Game time in Newark, N.J., is slated for 7 p.m.
