Buffaloes women's basketball falls at UVA-Wise

Wise, Va. (Dec. 4, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team came up short in a nonconference game on Tuesday night as they fell 72-50 to UVA-Wise in Wise, Va.

The Lady Cavaliers opened the game on a 7-0 run, but the Buffaloes answered with a 3-pointer from Jamiee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) and four points from Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.). However, the Buffaloes were unable to keep pace as UVA-Wise slowly pulled away to a 39-22 lead at the half.

As a team, the Buffaloes finished the first half 9-of-31 (29%) from the field and 4-of-14 (28%) from the 3-point line. UVA-Wise was 17-of-31 (55%) from the floor and 2-of-10 (20%) from behind the arc.

In the second half, Milligan continued to fight to close the gap, but they were unable to get within striking distance.

Hill led the way with 16 points and six rebounds. Allison Jones (Morristown, Tenn.) tallied 12 points, while AAC Player of the week Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) ended the game with seven points. Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) finished with five rebounds and five assists.

As a team, the Buffaloes finished the game 20-of-62 (32%) from the floor and 6-of-27 (22%) from behind the arc. The Lady Cavaliers ended the game 31-of-57 (54%) from the field and 3-of-16 (19%) from the 3-point line.

With the loss, Milligan falls to 7-3 overall.

The Buffaloes return to action on Friday, Dec. 7 as they open the Joe Manchin Classic in Salem, W.V. Milligan will open the two-day event against host Salem International University. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
