Salem, W.V. (Dec. 7, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team picked up a 82-75 victory over Salem International on Friday night on the opening day of the Joe Manchin Classic in Salem, W.V.
In the first half, Milligan slowly built up a 20-point lead and maintained a 42-24 lead at the break. Salem quickly closed the gap to 11 points to open the half, but Milligan extended their advantage back out midway through the half. The Buffaloes then held off a late rally in the final minutes to secure the win.
Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the way with 20 points, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range, and eight rebounds.
Jamiee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while
Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) had 11 points and five rebounds.
Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) ended the game with 17 points. Milligan outrebounded Salem 46-39.
As a team, Milligan was 27-of-65 (42%) from the floor and 8-of-23 (35%) from the 3-point line. Salem ended the night 30-of-78 (39%) from the field and 0-of-8 from behind the arc.
With the win, Milligan improves to 8-3 overall.
The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Dec. 8, for the second day of the Joe Manchin Classic as they square off against WVU Tech. Game time in Salem, W.V., is slated for 7 p.m.ÂÂ
