Milligan women's basketball upsets Bluefield in AAC tournament

Bluefield, Va. (Feb. 22, 2012) --- The No. 6 seed Milligan College women's basketball team knocked off No. 3 Bluefield College 68-55 in the AAC quarterfinals on Wednesday night in Bluefield, Va. The Buffaloes advance to Friday's semifinals where they will travel to No. 2 Union College.
 
   Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, and then drained another three to give Milligan an 11-6 lead five minutes into the game. The Buffaloes extended that margin to 23-11 with 8:03 left in the half. The Lady Rams cut the gap back to two points with two minutes left, but Milligan rallied back to take a 29-22 lead at the half.
 
   As a team, the Buffaloes were 10-of-24 (42%) from the floor in the first half and 5-of-13 (38%) from behind the arc. The Lady Rams were 10-of-31 (32%) in the field and 1-of-6 (17%) from the 3-point line.
 
   In the second half, senior Ashlee Price (Rogersville, Tenn.) hit a 3-pointer and Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a jumper to propel the Buffaloes to a double-digit lead to open the half, and Milligan held a 40-30 lead five minutes into the half. Both teams traded shots as Milligan slowly added to their advantage as they led 53-39 with 10 minutes left in the game.
 
   Tracy Hardiman (Maryville, Tenn.) and Price both drained 3-pointers with five minutes left to help Milligan take their largest lead of the game at 66-46. The Buffaloes kept the Lady Rams at bay for the remainder of the game to advance in the tournament.
 
   Freshman Chelsey Weddle (Hampton, Tenn.) led the way with 17 points. Hill recorded 15 points, while Price ended the game with 13 points. Good tallied up 12 points in the win.
 
   As a team, Milligan was 25-of-53 (47%) from the field and 9-of-20 (45%) from the 3-point line. Bluefield finished the game 22-of-62 (36%) from the floor and 5-of-16 (32%) from behind the arc.
 
   With the win, Milligan improves to 18-13 on the season.
 
   The Buffaloes will square off with the second-seeded Bulldogs on Friday night in the AAC semifinals in Barbourville, Ky. Game time inside Robison Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
