Emory, Va.  (March 14, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team picked up a 14-8 nonconference victory over NCAA Division III foe Emory and Henry on Wednesday afternoon in Emory, Va.

  The Buffaloes opened the game with a run in the first inning when
Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) drove
Wes Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) across home plate. However, the Wasps answered with a single run in the first and second to take a 2-1 lead.

  The Buffaloes answered in the away side of the fourth when
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) and Hilton crossed the plate. After Emory and Henry scored a run in the fifth, Milligan jumped ahead with three runs in the sixth, and then pulled away from the Wasps with six runs in the eighth. The Buffaloes capped off the win with two more runs in the top of the ninth, and then held off a Wasps' rally in the bottom half of the inning.

  Hilton led the way at the plate as he went 4-for-5 and recorded two RBIs.
Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Kolat was 3-for-6 with two RBIs.
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) ended the game 2-for-6 with two RBIs.

  On the mound,
Cody Compton (Lebanon, Va.) got win in five innings of work. Compton gave up three earned runs on four hits.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 13-14 overall.

  Milligan returns to action on Saturday, March 17, when they return to AAC play at Bluefield (Va.) College. First pitch for the conference doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
