Bluefield, Va. (March 17, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team picked up an AAC victory on Saturday as the Buffaloes defeated Bluefield (Va.) College 2-0 in the first game of a doubleheader in Bluefield, Va. The scheduled second game was suspended early in the first inning, and will be completed on Sunday afternoon.

  The Buffaloes opened the game with a run as
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) scored on a
Brandon Malone (Kingsport, Tenn.) sac fly in the opening frame. Neither team was able to score again until a
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) drove in Milligan's second run of the day in the top of the fifth. The Rams got the game tying run to the plate, but
Jake Howell (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded the save on the mound to preserve the win in the seventh inning.

  Kirk was 2-for-2 with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored.
Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) picked up the win on the mound for Milligan. Fleenor allowed two hits and recorded eight strikeouts in six and third innings of work.

  In the second game, the Buffaloes saw
Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) lead off with a triple, but that was the only at bat that would get completed before the rains came. The game will resume with Jones at third base tomorrow afternoon.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 14-14 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

  The teams will resume the seven-inning game on Sunday, March 18, and then will compete in the originally nine-inning game. First pitch in Bluefield, Va., is slated for 1 p.m.ÂÂ
