Milligan College, Tenn. (April 10, 2012) --- The Milligan College answered three late runs to take a 9-3 victory over nonconference foe Emory and Henry on Tuesday evening at Anglin Field.

  After a scoreless first inning, the Buffaloes struck first in the bottom of the second. Milligan loaded the bases, and
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) scored the first run of the game off of a
Ben Powers (Erwin, Tenn.) sacrifice fly.
Hunter Carpenter (Sneedville, Tenn.) followed up with a double at the next at bat to drive
Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) and
Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.) to go up 3-0 at the end of the frame.

  The Wasps responded by getting two runners on base in the top of the third, but the Buffaloes kept them from scoring. Milligan tried to add to their lead when
Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Kolat got on base and then loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but they were unable to add a run to the board either time.

  Emory and Henry evened the game in the top of the seventh as Ricky Sowers drove in two runs and Erik Houff knocked in one more run. However, Milligan jumped back into the lead when
Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored on a wild pitch and
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) and Kolat crossed home as Milligan took a 6-3 lead after seven innings.

  After keeping the Wasps off the bases in the top of the eighth, Milligan added two more runs when
Blake Buck (Maryville, Tenn.) scored on a Jones' triple, and then Hilton drove Jones across home plate. Hilton added another run off a Purus triple

  Carpenter went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Hilton finished the game 2-for-5 and Buck was 1-for-1.

  On the mound,
Derek Long (Jackson, Tenn.) got the start and no decision in four innings of work. Long did not give up a run on four hits and recorded five strikeouts.
Tyler Walker (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) picked up the win in two innings of work as he allowed three runs.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 22-21 overall.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, April 17, when they travel to UVA-Wise for a nonconference nine-inning contest. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.ÂÂ
