Milligan women's tennis clinches AAC crown

Milligan College, Tenn. (April 2, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's tennis team clinched their third straight AAC title on Monday afternoon with a 6-0 victory over Bluefield College at Mathes Tennis Center. The men's team picked up their first AAC win of the season with a 5-0 victory over the Rams after both matches was shortened due to rain.
 
   In women's doubles, Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Sarah Rainwater (Knoxville, Tenn.) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while the teams of Albany Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Celeste Carpenter (Mountain City, Tenn.) and Ahmee Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Hallie Winfrey (Fayetteville, Ga.) won 8-0 in their respective matches.
 
   Before the rain came, K. Kelly, Rainwater and Al. Kelly captured singles victories. With today's results, Carpenter, Winfrey and Ah. Kelly each went a perfect 8-0 in singles and doubles combined in conference play.
 
   On the men's side, Ricky Jones (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Caleb Fridell (Ooltewah, Tenn.) picked up a win at No. 1 doubles 8-2, while Wesley Rice (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Sebastian Jonnson (Lysekill, Germany) swept their doubles match 8-0.    
 
   In singles action, Jones won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Kody Horne (Summertown, Tenn.) and Jonsson also picked up singles victories before the match was stopped due to rain.
  
   For the Milligan women, the win clinches their third straight AAC crown as they hold a 4-0 record in conference play. The Buffaloes are 8-5 overall, and the Milligan men improve to 1-10 on the season.
 
   Both squads return to action on Tuesday, April 10, when they travel to NCAA D-II Lincoln Memorial University. Match time in Harrogate, Tenn., is slated for 2 p.m.
