Kingsport, Tenn. (May 2, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team was unable to keep pace with top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan as they fell 15-4 in the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference Baseball tournament on Wednesday night in Kingsport, Tenn. The loss drops the Buffaloes to an elimination game against Reinhardt University at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday.

  The Bulldogs offense came out of the gate strong as they put up six runs in the first inning. Milligan responded with two runs of their own in the visitor's side of the second when
Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) and
Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.) crossed home plate, and then retired TWC in order in the bottom of the frame.

  The Buffaloes cut into the gap again in the third as
Cory Hilton (Johnson City,Tenn.) and
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) scored off a Purus double to deep left-center field. However, the Bulldogs added four runs in the third and three more in the fourth to pull away. The Buffaloes were unable to close the gap any further in the rest of the game.

  Purus was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jefferies ended the game 2-for-4.
Derek Long (Jackson, Tenn.) was handed the loss on the mound in three innings of work.

  With the loss, Milligan drops to 26-26.

  The Buffaloes will square off against Reinhardt University in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m., at Hunter Wright Stadium on Thursday. The winner of that game will advance to Thursday night's 7:30 p.m., game against Tennessee Wesleyan.ÂÂ
