Milligan volleyball splits on final day at Mobile tournament

Mobile, Ala. (Aug. 25, 2012) --- The Milligan College volleyball team split a pair of nonconference games in the University of Mobile tournament on Saturday in Mobile, Ala. The Buffaloes were unable to extend the day's first match to a fifth set as they fell 3-1 to Southeastern University, but swept Tougaloo 3-0 in the day's final contest.
 
   After Milligan dropped the day's first set 25-21 to Southeastern, the Buffaloes battled back to take a 25-15 victory in the second set. However, they were unable to capture another set in the match as they fell 25-20 and 25-18 in the third and fourth set, respectively.
 
   Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 34 assists and 11 digs to lead the way. Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) recorded 18 kills, while senior Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 13 kills and 10 digs. Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Jessica Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.) had 16 and 11 digs, respectively.
 
   In the second game, the Buffaloes rallied to take the first set over Tougaloo 26-24. After capturing the second set 25-20, Milligan cruised to a decisive 25-11 victory in the match's third set.
 
   Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) had a team high eight kills, while Whaley ended the match with seven kills. Hensen recorded 14 digs. Spivey finished the match with 30 assists and seven digs.
 
   With the split, Milligan moves to 1-3 on the season.
 
   The Buffaloes are slated to open the home portion of their 2012 schedule on Friday, Aug. 31, in the Milligan Mountain Madness tournament. The tournament is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m., inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
