Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2012) --- The Milligan College volleyball team picked up a pair of nonconference wins on the final day of the Milligan Mountain Madness Tournament inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Buffaloes cruised past UVA-Wise 3-0 in the first game of the day, and then outlasted Southeastern University 3-1 in the day's final game.

  In the first game of the day, the Buffaloes jumped out to a quick 12-6 lead in the first set against UVA-Wise and then cruised to a 25-13 victory over the Lady Cavaliers. The Buffaloes captured the second set 25-19 after jumping out to a 8-3 lead to open frame, and then captured the decisive third set 25-20 to secure the match.

Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) recorded 19 assists.
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) and
Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) totaled 10 kills apiece, and
Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 12 kills.
Kaitlyn Qualls (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Spivey had seven and six digs, respectively.

  The start of the second game saw the Buffaloes and Fire stay within a few points of each other before Southeastern pulled away to take the first set by a score of 25-19. In the second set, Milligan jumped out to an early lead to propel them to a 25-21 set victory. After taking the third set by a score of 25-18, the Buffaloes rallied from a late deficit to take the decisive fourth set 25-23.

  Henson led the way with 29 digs, while Davenport had 12 digs. English had 15 kills and 11 digs. Spivey finished the match with 40 assists and nine digs.
Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) had 12 kills.

  With the sweep, Milligan improves to 4-4 on the season.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 4, when they travel to former AAC rival King College. Match time inside the Student Center in Bristol, Tenn., is slated for 7 p.m.ÂÂ
