Buffaloes volleyball falls in heartbreaker to King

Bristol, Tenn. (Sept. 4, 2012) --- The Milligan College volleyball team came up short in a nonconference matchup on Tuesday night as they fell 3-1 to former AAC foe King College inside the Student Center in Bristol, Tenn.
 
   The Buffaloes led late in the first set, but they were unable to hold off the Lady Tornado as they fell 25-23. Milligan battled back to win the second set 25-23. In the third set, the Buffaloes saw King use a late run to take a 25-20 set victory. The Buffaloes continued to fight hard in the decisive fourth set but was unable to force a fifth and final set as they fell 25-23.
 
   Senior Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded 15 kills and 10 digs, while Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) tallied up 27 digs. AAC Setter of the week Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 35 assists. Kaitlyn Qualls (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 10 digs, and Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) and Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) had nine kills apiece. Freshman Emilee Linkous (Morristown, Tenn.) had four block assists.
 
   “We came out flat and tired, and we didn't do a very good job of adjusting to their offense,” Head Coach Doneva Bays said. “However, we will learn from and correct our mistakes, and get better heading into the start of conference play.”
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls to 4-5 on the season.
 
   The Buffaloes open AAC play on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan. Game time in Athens, Tenn., is slated for 1 p.m.
