Milligan women's basketball remains undefeated in AAC action

Laurinburg, N.C. (Jan. 3, 2013) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team remained perfect in Appalachian Athletic Conference play as they defeated conference newcomer St. Andrews University 84-57 on Thursday night in Laurinburg, N.C.
 
   Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) quickly scored five points to help Milligan pull out to a 7-2 lead in the opening minutes, and the Buffaloes maintained a 14-6 lead five minutes into the game. Allison Jones (Morristown, Tenn.) drained a 3-pointer to give Buffaloes a 22-12 lead midway through the opening half.
 
   The Lady Knights slowly cut into the Milligan lead as they pulled within six points with 3:30 left in the half. However, baskets from Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) sparked a 15-4 run to end the first half and give the Buffaloes a 41-24 lead at the half.
 
   Milligan saw Tracy Hardiman (Maryville, Tenn.) and Kelly each hit a pair of free throws in the opening minutes, and a Kelly jumper gave the Buffaloes a 49-32 lead five minutes into the period.  The Buffaloes extended their lead to 21 points midway through the second half as Hardiman scored off a Freeman assist. From there, it was all Milligan as they kept the Lady Knights at bay.
  
    Kelly led the way with a game high 17 points, while Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) ended the game with 13 points. Jones and Hardiman had 12 points apiece, while Good finished the night with 10 points.
 
   As a team, Milligan was 31-of-61 (50%) from the floor and 8-of-16 (50%) from the 3-point line. St. Andrews finished the game 21-of-58 (36%) from the field and 4-of-14 (29%) from behind the arc.
 
   With the win, the Buffaloes improve to 3-0 in AAC action and 10-5 overall, while St. Andrews drops to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
 
   Milligan returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 5, as they host AAC foe Reinhardt University inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
