Athens, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2013) â€" The Milligan College Buffaloes came out on top as they defeated Tennessee Wesleyan College 3-2 in an exciting Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up.

The Buffaloes stayed within two points of the Bulldogs throughout most of the first set until a few Milligan errors and Bulldog kills pushed Tennessee Wesleyan ahead. The Bulldogs would eventually rally to win the first set 25-20.

The second set would finally see the momentum shift into Milligan's favor. The Buffaloes started behind early in the set but would eventually tie the game at 11-11. After four kills by senior,
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.), and a few errors committed by the Bulldogs, Milligan would have the lead 17-12. The Bulldogs would eventually rally and bring the teams within two points at 24-22, but Milligan's
Savannah Benton (Kingsport, Tenn.) would score, giving the Buffaloes the win 25-22.

In the night's third set, Milligan started out firing taking a 13-6 lead over the Bulldogs with five service aces by Whaley. Again, Tennessee Wesleyan rallied and brought the game to a tie at 24-24. After trading points back and forth, Milligan's
Emily Linkous (Morristown, Tenn.) would get the final kill of the set and win it for the Buffaloes 31-29.

Milligan and Tennessee Wesleyan started the fourth set trading shots yet again. However, the Bulldogs would eventually pull ahead and keep the lead the remainder of the set and finish with the win 25-22.

The final set was controlled by Milligan from the start. Early in the set, the Lady Buffaloes had a 4-1 lead. Although the Bulldogs would tie the score twice, Milligan would go on to win the set 15-11.

Whaley played a big role in the win with 25 kills and 5 aces.
Samantha Bruinius (Tinley Park, IL) had 14 kills as well and six digs.
Jessica Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.) had an impressive 56 assists while
Kaitlyn Round (Billings, MT) and
Grace Ann Moorhouse (Morristown, Tenn.) had 16 and 7 digs respectively.

The win will improve the Buffaloes record to 11-18 overall and 6-8 in the AAC.

The Lady Buffaloes return to action Wednesday, Oct. 23, as they host AAC foe, Montreat College. Game time in the Steve Lacy Field House is set for 6:30 p.m.
