Waleska, GA. (Nov. 14, 2013) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in the day's Appalachian Athletic Conference semi-final match against Montreat College 8-1.
The Buffaloes started the game on a defensive roll stopping several Cavalier attacks and only allowing six shots this entire first half. In the 15
th minute,
Ansley Ferguson (Kingsport, Tenn.) made a great second effort with a slide tackle and punched the game's first goal into the Cavalier net. Montreat, however, would fight back shortly thereafter and score a goal of their own tying the game 1-1. A quick second goal by the Cavalier attack would give Montreat the lead 2-1 entering the half-time break.
The Buffaloes' second half was both an offensive and defensive struggle as the Buffaloes would allow five unanswered goals late in the half. The Buffaloes trailed the remainder of the game unable to find an answer to offensive push made by the Cavaliers.
Ferguson led the Buffaloes with two shots on the day followed by
Caroline Gill (Stafford, Va) and
Christine Hardin (Elizabethton, Tenn.) who both recorded one shot apiece.
The Buffaloes finished their season with an overall record of 8-11-1 and a conference record of 5-5.ÂÂ
