Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball falls to Appalachian State in exhibition

BOONE, N.C. (Dec. 21, 2013) â€" In its final outing before taking a break for Christmas, the Milligan men's basketball team lost to Appalachian State, 100-68, in midseason exhibition Saturday at the Holmes Center.

Appalachian State, which counted the contest as part of its regular season schedule, snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-8 while Milligan's record remained 8-4 (3-2 AAC).

The Mountaineers used a 20-2 run beginning at the 17:09 mark of the first half to surge into a double-digit lead where they would stay for the majority of the contest.

Milligan cut it back into single figures with just over six minutes left in the opening half thanks to a three-pointer from Mickey Woods, but Appalachian State began the second half much like it started the first. Led by Tab Hamilton's back-to-back three's, the Mountaineers scored the first 10 points of the second half and saw their advantage swell to as many as 36.

Senior Torian Sitton paced Milligan's offense with 12 points and seven rebounds while sophomore Cartree Pettis finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Appalachian State's Rantavious Gilbert led all scorers with 22 on 11-of-15 shooting. Michael Obacha scored six points and grabbed 17 rebounds.

Milligan has one final matchup before welcoming the new year. On Monday, Dec. 30, the Buffaloes will travel to Cullowhee, N.C., for a 7 p.m. game against Western Carolina University.
