Women's basketball falls victim to 92-50 loss at No. 7 Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 31, 2013) â€" Milligan women's basketball closed out the 2013 leg of the season with a 92-50 loss to No. 7 Campbellsville Tuesday evening at the Powell Athletic Center.

Milligan, which fell in back-to-back games for the first time since the start of the season, dropped to 8-6. Campbellsville won its fourth straight to improve to 11-1.

Freshman Hayley Wyrick and senior Kayla Kelly each finished with 11 points to lead the Lady Buffaloes. Junior Robyn Anthony had seven points and seven rebounds.

Milligan had the lead for much of the first 10 minutes and even went ahead by as many as eight (13-5) on a bucket from Wyrick at the 14:14 mark. The cushion was short-lived, however, as the Lady Tigers scored the next eight points to tie, then broke things open with a devastating 27-5 run over the next nine minutes.

Campbellsville junior Caroline Owen knocked down a three-pointer, one of nine she made on the night, with 10:27 to go in the first half to give the Lady Tigers the lead for good.

Milligan, which trailed 46-19 at the break, cut the deficit to 20 twice in the second half but could get no closer.

The Lady Buffaloes turned the ball over 26 times and shot just 28.3% (15-53) from the field. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers were red hot all night, shooting 56.7% (34-60) from the field.

Owen led all scorers with 27 points off the bench. She also set the CU school record for three-pointers in a game, making 9-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc.

Putting the loss and 2013 behind them, the Lady Buffaloes will begin the new year with a trip to Bryan College on Thursday in Dayton, Tenn. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
