Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team saw their pitching staff have a recording breaking series as the Buffaloes picked up a pair of nonconference wins over Johnson University on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes recorded a 17-0 win the day's opener, and closed the day with a 10-0 victory.

  In the three-game series, the Milligan pitching staff struck out a combined 35 batters and allowed just two hits, both of which are three-game series records for Milligan.

  In the day's first game, the Milligan offense struck early as
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.), pinch runner
Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.),
Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.) and
Brandon Malone (Maryville, Tenn.) cross home plate to give Milligan a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. The Buffaloes offense continued to stay hot in the second inning as
Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.),
Blake Buck (Maryville, Tenn.) and Kirk drove in runs as the Buffaloes added five runs to their lead.

Nick Loughrey (Kingsport, Tenn.) led off the scoring in the third inning as the Buffaloes added seven more runs to take a 16-0 lead. Milligan added a final run in the fourth, and preserved the shutout in the away side of the fifth to take the victory.

  On the mound,
Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) won in his first start of the season in four innings of work. Watts allowed just one hit and recorded eight strikeouts.
Jarrett Ramsey (Newport, Tenn.) had three strikeouts in one inning of relief work.

  Loughrey led the way at the plate as he was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, while McPherson was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI. Jefferies was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

  In the second game, the Buffaloes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play as Golden drove in two runs and McPherson added another RBI. After neither team could score in the second or third innings, Malone opened the scoring in the fourth as he drove in two runs, and the Buffaloes added five more runs in the frame to take the victory.

Tyler Wilson (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded a no-hitter as he pitched a complete game. The junior recorded 12 strikeouts in 69 pitches in five innings of work.

  Malone led the way at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance with three RBIs, while McPherson was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored. Golden finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.

  With the sweep, Milligan improves to 3-1 on the season.

  The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 13, in a nine-inning game against UVA-Wise. Game time at Anglin Field is set for 3 p.m.
