Milligan baseball unable to rally past Point

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 16, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team was unable to make a late comeback on Saturday as they fell 4-1 to Point University in Appalachian Athletic Conference action at Anglin Field.
 
   After a scoreless first inning, the Skyhawks broke onto the board in the top of the second inning with a single run, and extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning. Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.) hit a double to open the fourth inning for Milligan. Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) brought Millsap across home plate with a single to trim the Milligan deficit to 3-1.
 
   Neither team was able to get back onto the board until the seventh inning when Point added a run. The Buffaloes put two runners on the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but they were unable to score a run in the frame. Milligan held the Skyhawks scoreless in the ninth inning. However, the Buffaloes were unable to rally in the final three outs.
 
   Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) led the way at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance. Millsap finished the game 1-for-3 with a run scored.
 
   On the mound, Justin Johnson (Black Mountain, Tenn.) was handed the loss in seven innings of work as he allowed one earned run on five hits. Johnson recorded seven strikeouts in the game.
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls to 3-6 in conference play and 11-13 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, March 20, as they travel to Roanoke College for a nonconference game. First pitch in Roanoke, Va., is set for 7 p.m.
